How mentally healthy are you…?

Is that a question you’ve ever actually asked yourself??

It’s a common misconception to assume that if we don’t have or haven’t been diagnosed with a mental illness then we must be mentally healthy.

We all have mental health just like we have physical health.

And the truth is, like physical health, we all have varying degrees of mental health and working on improving our mental health should be a priority for us all.

Mental health is so important because everything we do and achieve in life stems from what we think – including how we feel and how we act. And so the effectiveness of how we manage our thoughts relates directly to our mental health.

Being mentally healthy allows us to deal with both positive and negative situations and emotions, it allows us to develop the resilience we need to overcome the challenges we face in life and it give us the emotional intelligence to forge effective relationships and be a fully functioning member of society.

·         Worry

·         Fear

·         Insecurity

·         Anger

·         Sadness

·         Regret

·         Low self-confidence

·         Low self-esteem

All are negative emotions we commonly feel from time to time – some more than others.

Experiencing these emotions doesn’t mean we’re broken, it just means that as with any other area of our life there's room for improvement and we need to work at it.

We'll go to the gym to make us fitter

We'll change our diet to make us healthier

But how many of us take action to improve our mental health

No-one is perfect and we all have room for improvement

So how mentally healthy do you think you are?

Ask yourself these 5 simple questions…

·         Do you have future plans that challenge and excite you – 1 year, 5 years and 10 years down the line?

·         Do you have emotional balance? A balance between allowing negative and positive emotions into your life - not pushing away the negative emotions but instead recognising and dealing with those emotions??

·         Do you indulge in false pleasure? Over-eating, over-drinking, over-spending, over-working, watching too much TV in order to avoid dealing with difficult relationships, situations and emotions!?

·         Do you take action in your life? All aspects of your life!

·         Do you have good internal control? Do you control yourself, your feeling and actions, rather than trying to control external factors like someone else’s actions and feelings?

OUR MENTAL HEALTH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF OUR LIVES - it has a direct impact on our sense of wellbeing.

Life Coaching is the next evolution in health care and wellbeing for our generation and will be as accessible and acceptable as going to the gym, getting a massage, visiting an osteopath and the many other health enhancing activities we now take for granted that would have been unimaginable 30 years ago.

Effective life coaching can change the way you approach the challenges of life and what you can achieve with this most precious but often all too short time we have in this wonderfully vast and diverse world we live in.

I encourage you to act now and do the most important work of your life
